Health Week - 3rd to 6th November 2015

Staff and students enjoyed a week with the focus on health related matters.

Classes followed their own individual topics on Health but we also had activities provided by other agencies.  The Ambulance Service brought an ambulance to school for the children to look inside and explore.  The paramedic also talked to them about how to call the emergency services and what to do in an emergency.

The Sports Coaches arranged a small football tournament in a giant inflatable football pitch and the Immersive Room came into its own as a various medical facilities, such as a Hospital and a dentists surgery.  Various classes also had the opportunity to prepare healthy food.

Employers - Claim up to £2,000 against National Insurance Payments - New Allowance

The 2k Employment Allowance – your opportunity to claim up to £2,000 a year when you employ a Nanny, Carer or Support Worker!

In 2014 the Government announced a new scheme to allow certain employers to forego the first £2,000 of Employers National Insurance contributions with the aim to benefit many of the UK’s small employers.

As it stands, nannies and domestic employers are not eligible to benefit from the scheme, however you can claim if you are hiring a nanny to help with caring for a disabled child or you employ a care or support worker, either for yourself or another person.

As this will affect a number of parents/carers of Pioneer pupils, we wanted to highlight this important benefit.

The scheme came into effect on Sunday 6th April 2015 and means that if eligible you can reduce your Employer National Insurance Contributions bill by up to £2,000 a year, depending on how much Employer NI Contributions you pay. The Employment Allowance is not a grant, it works by reducing the amount of employer NI Contributions you need to pay.

You can find full details of the allowance on the Government website at https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/421000/carers-guidance.pdf

Ofsted inspection

Pioneer is a good school with aspects of outstanding practice.

At the recent Ofsted inspection (19 – 20 June 2014) inspectors found that pupils make good progress and learn important skills for their future lives.  They felt that those with the most profound needs made outstanding progress because of the quality of joint working between school staff and specialist therapists.  They also said that the pupils make outstanding progress in their social and personal development as a result of the very considerable care and respect afforded to them by all staff.  Relationships between pupils and with staff were also considered to be outstanding.

The report also complimented the way that teachers and teaching assistants met the wide range of needs within classes and found that teaching was consistently good and occasionally outstanding.  They also commented on the good provision at the Early Years and Foundation Stage and at post 16, which they felt prepared students effectively for when they transfer to the next stage of their education or training.

Inspectors were also impressed by the attitude of the students, describing them as keen to learn and well mannered, stating that misbehaviour was uncommon.  They felt that behaviour management was excellent with a positive approach from staff that got the best form pupils.  The school’s work to keep pupils safe and secure was also felt to be outstanding.

Inspectors also commented that the school accommodation and resources are of exceptional quality and support the curriculum very well.

To improve further the inspectors feel we need to raise pupils’ progress and attainment by ensuring more teaching is outstanding.  They also say we need to ensure the school improvement plans focus on the most important areas of pupils’ learning

The inspection team was led by the Chief Inspector for SEN & Disability and his endorsement of the very good work of the school and the many positive comments within the report is cause for congratulations to all concerned.

A copy of the full report can be found on this website (see Quick Links) and will be available on the Ofsted website (www.ofsted.gov.uk) from Thursday 10th July 2014.
